For my Final Major Project, I am going to set up a small company with a Skater/Goth theme. The target audiences that I am going to aim it to are teenagers with and ‘alternative’ fashion sense. This will be similar to website companies like Ruby Gloom, Emily Strange and many others. I am going to produce written survey and interviews to find out what teenagers do in their spare time and then I can incorporate this in to my website. This would be my primary research.

To be able to reach a whole range of clients and audiences, I am going to also design a website, I be making a limited edition moving puppet and a prototype of the website. This may expand depending on my research.

I’ll also need to produce a business pack with company colour scheme, font, logo and illustration. With these detailed I’ll keep the themes through out my project.

I will also look in to setting up a company, the advantages and disadvantages of owning a business, but the most important thing is the practicalities of setting up their business up and types of ways of promoting them.

At this point in time the research is going to be done early to save time, so all I have to do is add to what I have done already and be able to start doing the practical pieces.

The rough lists of research techniques that I’ll need to look up are:
o Designers and artists (Salvador Dali, Pictoplasma, Cosmic Debris, RokStuff.com and Neville Brody.)
o Websites (Emily Strange, Art Computer Magazine, Hi-res, logo & identity books, power of the poster and Frost design)
o Different fonts styles (Graphic magazines, dafonts.com, Émigré)
o Character designs (Cartoon Animations, How to draw Aladdin and Manga)
o Computer magazines for information on new or different techniques. (Art computer, art project, Digit and creative reviews)

The research that I’ve done so far are looking at ‘Being John Malkovich’, ‘Forgotten Toys’ and noting different character designs.

Techniques that I would need to look up are how visually interesting a website is, what I need to make a puppet. The answers for these questions are, I am going to ask the technicians in the 3D workshop department and ask my peers if they would know how or know a different way.

To review my Final Major Project I am going to ask my peers and students from different courses, to what they think of the pieces I’ve done already and then write them down in a sketchbook or in a Blog. Also look in to the tutorial advise I get and refer to assessment grid.
